The word of the week is Wisdom!

When we put knowledge and understanding together we gain wisdom. Wisdom comes from experience and learning from our mistakes- it takes time! Think about the people in your life who are wise, what can you learn from them? how can you use the experiences you’ve had in the past to help you make wise decisions in the future?

We start our prayer with the sign of the cross…

This week we invite you to watch a video with Susan Timoney, professor of pastoral studies at The Catholic University of America, discusses wisdom as one of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Professor Susan discusses Wisdom is the gift of knowing God. Wisdom helps us to think like God. To understand the truth of God and to be able to respond to that truth.

Spend a moment reflecting on your relationship with God.

How can you make time in your day to get to know God better and from this become wiser?

You may feel close to God through prayer, through studying the scripture, through live streaming Mass.

Let us know in the comments box below!

Let us pray…

Heavenly Father,

open my eyes to see Your truth,

open my ears to hear Your Word,

open my heart to gain understanding and Your eternal wisdom so that I may spread Your Word with others.

May I be a blessing to others with the knowledge You provide me with.

Today, I pray for the gift of Your wisdom and understanding.

Amen

Wisdom

As you grow, you will have to learn many new things. You will have to learn about reading, writing and problem solving. You may learn something special like playing a musical instrument or how to play a sport. But learning how to please God is the most important thing every person needs to know. A wise person is someone who has learned how to please God.

The Book of Proverbs uses many short teachings to help us learn how to be wise. These teachings are about staying out of trouble, obeying our parents, working hard and many other things. Even though these teachings were written a long time ago, they still teach us a lot today.

God’s Wisdom Brings Us Happiness

Proverbs 3:21-26 (GNT)

A reading from the book of Proverbs,

My child, hold on to your wisdom and insight. Never let them get away from you. They will provide you with life—a pleasant and happy life. You can go safely on your way and never even stumble. You will not be afraid when you go to bed, and you will sleep soundly through the night. You will not have to worry about sudden disasters, such as come on the wicked like a storm. The Lord will keep you safe. He will not let you fall into a trap.

The Word of the Lord

Thanks be to God

Our parents, carers and teachers tell us lots of things to help teach us how to live. In this passage from the book of Proverbs, a father is giving his child advice for living a good life. Above all, the father says to be wise.

God is wise. He gives us wise advice like the Ten Commandments. Following His wise advice brings us happiness. If we follow God’s Commandments, we will be happier.

Spend some time looking through a bible or searching online some of the other passages in the book of Proverbs on WISDOM.

Let us know in the comments box below how many you can find or your favourite passage on wisdom!

“Making sense of it all”

We try to make sense of the issues affecting our world by turning to our faith.

With social distancing finally being reduced and places starting to reopen from the 4th of July – what has the pandemic and our faith taught us about social distancing?
