This week’s ‘Word of the Week’ is “Safeguarding” – it might seem like an odd choice for our word of the week but it’s got more to do with being a Catholic School than you might think. When we think of safeguarding we often think about the serious nature of the things we sometimes encounter at school. We might think about bullying or about staying safe online for example. But safeguarding is about more than that. It’s about how we look after and care for each other as a community and it’s about how we show God’s love and mercy to the other people around us. It’s about telling someone if we think someone is in danger and showing love and compassion to those who really need it.

We’ve got lots of people who’s job it is to keep us safe and to help us feel loved and protected and actually, when you think about it we all have a responsibility to look out for each other.

Take the chance this week to think about how you stay safe and most importantly how you can look out for those around you too.

Also if you are in Year 11 or Year 13 remember you can start coming down this week to film your leavers video! Don’t miss out!

We begin with the Sign of the Cross

We have so many people who look out for us at school – who are the people we trust most at school and who would we tell if we were worried about something?

Discuss as a class: What are the best things to do if you’re worried about yourself or someone else – how can we obey the law of Christ when we help each other out?

Lord, help us to look after each other and keep each other safe. Amen.

This whole term is about Right and Wrong It’s going to look at issues around law and order and about our Justice system. Its going to look at why you can do some things and why you can’t do others and most importantly what that means for you!

This week use the Key Process of “Numb3rs” to look at some statistics about online safety.

In a recent national survey of young people how many said that they didn’t feel safe online?

Lord, help us to listen to our conscience and be guided by our faith to understand what’s right and wrong. Amen.
