Welcome to week two! With the countdown to the end of school, lots of exams going on and the weather finally starting to get a bit better – change is in the air! But change is good. This season is about celebrating change and new life and with that in mind were going to look the new life and opportunities this time of year brings! The light that we focussed on last week is a key part of the new life; nothing can grow without light and so we cannot grow as people without the light that comes from God.

Monday

bigquestion

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

On Monday we think about the big questions in life so with our theme in mind your question for discussion today is this:

What is the most important factor in helping a person to grow? Why?

 (By the way we are not talking biologically, more spiritually/emotionally such as encouragement or love etc.)

Put your answers in the comments box to let other people know what you thought of!

Morning Prayer: Lord, help us to help others to grow. Amen.

Prayer at the end of the day:

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

Do you think in some small way you have grown as a person today?

Father, give us faith
And help us to appreciate the things we cannot see.
Inspire in us not just a faith in you, but a faith in our family, our friends and ourselves.
Thank you for the strength that comes from your love;
Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again. Amen.

Tuesday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross

This video shows the growth of a seed, I think its really cool when you can see something growing and it’s even cooler when you can see something growing in a person, like confidence or a talent or gift. Jesus used this same example about faith – have a read of this:

Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge.  He taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said:  “Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed.  As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.  Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow.  But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain.  Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.”

What do you think Jesus was trying to say with this parable?

Morning Prayer: Lord, help your word and example to take root in our lives so we can grow into better people. Amen.

Prayer at the end of the day

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

Has something you’ve seen/heard taken root in you today?

Father, give us faith
And help us to appreciate the things we cannot see.
Inspire in us not just a faith in you, but a faith in our family, our friends and ourselves.
Thank you for the strength that comes from your love;
Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again. Amen.

Wednesday

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

St Paul in his letter to the Ephesians, talked about the things that build us up and bring life. He said this:

“Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and bring life, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you.”

With that in mind your take today is this.

Get a small piece of paper for everybody in your class – about credit card sized. On that piece of paper write something nice about someone who is not in your form and then during the day either give it to them or leave it somewhere for them to find and watch how kind words can build somebody up! This person can be anyone in school in any year group – think about somebody who might really need some kind words today!

Morning Prayer: Lord, help us to build up the people around us. Amen.

Prayer at the end of the day:

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

Has some one encouraged you today?

Father, give us faith
And help us to appreciate the things we cannot see.
Inspire in us not just a faith in you, but a faith in our family, our friends and ourselves.
Thank you for the strength that comes from your love;
Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again. Amen.

Thursday / Friday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zLx_JtcQVI

This song might be a bit of an obvious choice for a week focusing on new life but actually when you listen to the words there’s some incredible things to think about.

From the day we arrive on the planet And blinking, step into the sun There’s more to see than can ever be seen More to do than can ever be done There’s far too much to take in here More to find than can ever be found But the sun rolling high Through the sapphire sky Keeps great and small on the endless round It’s the Circle of Life And it moves us all Through despair and hope Through faith and love Till we find our place On the path unwinding In the Circle The Circle of Life In the video too you see Simba being anointed – chosen to do something special with his life. Whilst we may not be destined to be a Disney character we too are anointed at our baptism to show that our life is special and we have our own part to play. What do you think is the most important line that we can learn from in the song?

Morning Prayer: Lord, help us find our place in life. Amen.

Prayer at the end of the day

How have you played your part and lived your life to the full today?

Father, give us faith
And help us to appreciate the things we cannot see.
Inspire in us not just a faith in you, but a faith in our family, our friends and ourselves.
Thank you for the strength that comes from your love;
Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again. Amen.
