It’s week 2 and we move on to another theme of lent – Fasting. This week word of the week can be really challenging at time but at the heart of it it’s about sacrifice. Going without something so that we can focus on what’s important. For many giving up chocolate or sweets during lent helps them realise how lucky they are to have what they have but maybe lent is about giving up more than material things?

Maybe we could give up our time to visit someone who is lonely – maybe we could give up our knowledge to help someone who is stuck? Fasting can be a really positive thing and make a positive difference to the world around us.

Don’t forget about ‘1000Hours’ It’s a challenge for us a school to reach 1000 hours of prayer and we’re going to do that by giving over just 2 minutes of each day. One minute before lunch and one minute at the end of the day. In this time it’s an opportunity to pray – however you want for anything you want. If everybody in our community does 2 minutes between now an Easter – it’ll add up to…. 1000 Hours! That’s pretty awesome! If you need some ideas for prayers you can click here!

Tuesday/Wednesday

downloadWe begin with the Sign of the Cross

Giving up something for others can work even in the smallest aspects of our lives. Giving up a space in a queue, giving up your last chocolate, even giving up your seat for someone else can remind us of the importance of sacrifice in our lives.

Give up your seat in your form and find another seat with someone you don’t normally sit with.

Talk to each other and try and find something nice you could do for each other that would require a sacrifice – giving something up for them. It could be as simple as giving up your time to help them do something.

Try and find time today to make that sacrifice for someone else.

Lord, help us to give up what we have for others. Amen.

Thursday

We begin with the Sign of the Cross

This whole term is about People’s rights and responsibilities. It’s going to look at issues around law and order and politics. It’s also going to explore what we are expected to do as part of a country and community.

This week use the Key Process of “Expert Groups” to explore the issue of Human rights and whether or not they’ll be around for much longer in this country. If you split into 4 groups, take 30 seconds each of the video and then do you best to digest and explain what was being said to your form!

Lord, help us to understand our rights and responsibilities to others in our world. Amen.

Friday

We begin with the Sign of the Cross

As you know, we are going to use the Scripture from this Sunday’s Gospel to reflect on every Friday. If you are in KS 3/4 You can use your planners to to help you understand the scripture.

This year we want to bring the Word of God to life on a Friday morning to help us reflect and understand scripture a little bit better, so with the help of our school community a different person each week will read our Gospel and share what it means to them. Use your planners to help you discuss and explore the story further.

Lord, help us to listen to and follow your word. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.
