It’s the last week of the year! Well – Liturgically speaking! In the church The Feast of Christ the King is the last Sunday of the year as next Sunday we start the season of Advent! So as it’s the end of the year we’re going to look at making some new year’s resolutions and looking towards the future. We’ve been exploring the idea of faith these last few weeks and before we begin our Advent preparations we’re going to look at having faith in the future!

Monday

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

In the book of Isaiah we hear the line:

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

Does that mean that were always going to always make the right decisions in our future?

Could it mean that what ever we choose in the future, God will be behind us to rely upon?

Having faith in our decisions and in what we want to do can be a difficult thing. Today the first exams of the year begin and alot of our community will be thinking about the future they are working for.

Let’s spend a moment today to think about all those who are taking mock exams this week and pray that they can do their best and achieve the future they dream of.

Morning Prayer: Lord, be with all those in our community who are facing challenges this week. Amen

Prayer at the end of the day:

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

Think for a moment about how today has been and how you have faced the challenges it has faced.

Father, give us faith
And help us to appreciate the things we cannot see.
Inspire in us not just a faith in you, but a faith in our family, our friends and ourselves.
Thank you for the strength that comes from your love;
Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again.

Amen.

Tuesday

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

In 5 Years time our Yr 7’s will be in year 11, facing the same challenges that our yr 11’s are facing this week. Rather than something to be worried about, lets think about what we can do with the next 5 years and what we’d like to do with our futures!

What have we done today that will affect our tomorrow?

Father, give us faith
And help us to appreciate the things we cannot see.
Inspire in us not just a faith in you, but a faith in our family, our friends and ourselves.
Thank you for the strength that comes from your love;
Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again.

Amen.

Wednesday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross

In R.E at the moment some of us are looking at the idea of prophets – those people who not only give us an insight into the future but also help us reflect on where we are now.

This clip was from 1974 and almost perfectly describes what our world is like for many people today.

Talk about what you think the world will be like in the future and maybe more importantly, what you’d like the world to be like in the future!

Morning Prayer: Lord, Help us to build a better world in the future. Amen

Prayer at the end of the day:

We start with the sign of the cross.

What is something that you’re looking forward to at the moment?

Father, give us faith
And help us to appreciate the things we cannot see.
Inspire in us not just a faith in you, but a faith in our family, our friends and ourselves.
Thank you for the strength that comes from your love;
Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again.

Amen.

Thursday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross

So it’s time to write those new (liturgical) year’s resolutions!  Think about what you want to focus on as a form and try and come up with one new year’s resolution that you can all do as a form then write it on your white board so that the next class to use that room will see it! Then the challenge is to see if you can keep to it. You might want to write it on a piece of paper and all sign it to show you’re commitment to making it happen!

We’re getting ready for the run up to Christmas – a time when we got a chance to start again in our relationship with God. What things do you want achieve? What do you need to start again with?

Morning Prayer: Lord, Help us to make a fresh start this Advent. Amen.

Prayer at the end of the day:

We start with the sign of the cross.

What resolutions have you seen around school today? Have any made you think of one you could make for yourselves?

Father, give us faith
And help us to appreciate the things we cannot see.
Inspire in us not just a faith in you, but a faith in our family, our friends and ourselves.
Thank you for the strength that comes from your love;
Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again.

Amen.

Friday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross

So this weekend is the first Sunday of Advent. A really special time in the life of our community and a time when we start the run up to Christmas. There’s alot to look forward to and lots to get excited about! This week has been all about having faith in the future so this morning your prayer is a simple one. To close your eyes and think of something you’re looking forward to and thank God for it. It might be someone one you’re going to see, something you’re going to do or something you’re going to experience, but as we get ready to celebrate the greatest gift ever, lets end our week by thinking of something good we’ve been given to look forward to.

And if you want some music then this song fit’s the bill!
