This week we celebrate the feast day of our Trust patron, Our Lady of Lourdes. Many people journey to Lourdes, where Our Lady appeared to St Bernadette, as it is a place of comfort and healing. This week, think about what it means to be part of the Our Lady of Lourdes Trust community and how we are called to share our faith with others. Jesus called his disciples so that they could build the Church and continue His ministry.

How do you go about sharing that message of healing and forgiveness in your daily life?

The feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes is also the World Day of Prayer for the sick.

On this World Day of Prayer for the Sick let’s say together a special prayer for all those who need healing:

God of strength and compassion,
hear the prayer that arises from our hearts
as we join our lives with your Son
in His most sacred passion.
Be with us in the Garden of Gethsemane
as we acknowledge the suffering
within our bodies, our minds, our hearts,
that is as yet hidden from others’ eyes.
Be with us at Gabbatha,
the Judgement Seat,
as we hear the reports
that spell out our future,
or even the loss thereof.
Be with us at Golgatha
as, in faith, we join
our suffering, our pain, to His.
Hear us as we surrender
our lives to your loving protection,
guidance, strength, and peace.
It is into your hands, O Lord,
that we commend our spirits.
Hear us, O Lord,
and have mercy.

Amen.

We end by making the Sign of the Cross.

When Mary appeared to St Bernadette she was holding a rosary and she told St Bernadette that people should process in Lourdes and pray the Rosary.

The Rosary consists of several different prayers but the main prayer is the Hail Mary which, if praying the whole rosary, is said 53 times!

As your prayer this morning use this video, which combines British Sign Language with Liturgical Dance, to offer up your prayers to Jesus. You can join with the singing, the movement or simply use the peace as a time of prayer.

If you would like to continue with your prayer then join us in the Chapel at lunchtime on Wednesday for our Escape session when we will be praying the rosary.

We end with the Sign of the Cross.

Between Thursday 11th February 1858 and Friday 16th July 1858 Our Lady appeared to St Bernadette 18 times!

Image result for our lady of lourdes and st bernadetteDuring these apparitions they prayed the rosary together and Mary instructed St Bernadette to: pray for sinners; to bring a candle to with her when she visited; to dig for a spring and to drink from it and wash in it; to tell the priest to build a Chapel at the site of the Grotto; to tell people to process to the Chapel and she shared other news and secrets with her. During the second to last apparition the crowd that gathered to see Bernadette visit the grotto saw the flame of the candle burn through Bernadette’s hand but she did not feel it. When a nearby doctor unexpectedly tried the same thing after the apparition she cried out in pain.

This week we will be rewarding those of you who are observant enough to spot the Our Lady of Lourdes apparitions around our school! Collect an answer sheet from the letter rack outside of the Chapel and record the locations of the 18 images of Our Lady of Lourdes that are displayed around our school. Entries can then be handed into the Chapel and the entries will gain House Points for your House and the overall winners will receive an extra prize too! Keep your eyes open and get your answer sheets handed in by the end of the day on Thursday!

Help us Lord to keep our eyes open to the incredible world that you have created for us. May we be faithful enough to follow your call.
Amen.

On this Valentine’s Day let’s show our love by praying for the 21 school communities across our Catholic Multi Academy Trust and for the staff who guide and lead the Our Lady of Lourdes Trust.

Take a look at the postcards that were produced for our Launch Event in October which represent each of the 21 schools in our Trust and then join together in saying our Trust prayer during the week of our Feast Day.

Trust Prayer

God Our Father,

Give us strength so that, guided by Our Lady’s example,

we can have the courage to say yes to you.

Help us to love like she loved, have faith like she had

and follow Jesus’ example in all that we do.

Inspire in all of us a sense of togetherness, so that we can use

the gifts you have given us for the good of all in our community

and bring support and healing to those less fortunate than ourselves.

We ask Our Lady to guide us, just as she guided St Bernadette,

as we seek to bring Jesus’ message of love

and forgiveness to others.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, your Son, Our Lord.

Amen

Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us.

We end with the Sign of the Cross.
