We often give up things for Lent but fasting is not just about going without chocolate.

It’s about going without something you don’t need to focus on the things you do.

You might fast from watching TV or going on your phone and spend more time with your family and friends.

What can you give up for lent that will help you understand the really important things in your life?

Monday/Tuesday

We begin with the Sign of the Cross

It’s time for our “Word of the Week” watch the video above and check out for the notices at the bottom of the screen – don’t forget to leave your comments below!

In your forms  – talk about the things you’ve given up for lent? What has it been like – has it been difficult? Put a notice in your form room window to show the rest of the school what you’ve given up for Lent!

Lord, help us to keep to our lenten promises and make more time for you. Amen

Wednesday/Thursday

We begin with the Sign of the Cross

We’re moving on to a new topic in our PSHCE this half term – Peoples rights and responsibilities.

We’re going to think about why we do the things we do and what we are called to do by our society, by our laws or even by our faith. The consequence for breaking the law ultimately in this country is imprisonment but often that is avoided if possible. You may have read recently about a review into the state of our prisons in this country and the complaints of staff working in the system.

Using the key process of “Numb3rs” to guess the answer to the following question and then explore the results.

How many people are currently in prison in the UK?

Read the answer below and think about why this may be the case!

Lord, help us to recognise our rights and responsibilities. Amen.

Friday

NEXT STEPSWe begin with the Sign of the Cross

As you know, we are going to use the Scripture from this Sunday’s Gospel to reflect on every Friday. If you are in KS 3/4 You can use your planners to to help you understand the scripture.

This year we want to bring the Word of God to life on a Friday morning to help us reflect and understand scripture a little bit better, so with the help of our school community a different person each week will read our Gospel and share what it means to them. Use your planners to help you discuss and explore the story further.

Matthew 4: 1

Then the Spirit led Jesus into the desert to be tempted by the Devil.

What challenges are you faced with? How do you respond when you are tempted to do the wrong thing?

Lord, help us to listen to and follow your word. Amen.
