Missionary Discipleship is our theme for this week’s prayer resources. Bishop Patrick, our Bishop here in Nottingham, also has it as one of his three themes that we follow – so hopefully you’ve done a bit about it in school! If not, don’t worry, we’ve got you sorted. This week’s resources are going to explore what it means to be a Missionary Disciple in more detail no matter what age you are or how much you already know.

CAFOD is a great example of Missionary Discipleship. They are a Catholic charity that goes out and helps people struggling in other countries, whilst also spreading God’s Word.

Choose from the tabs below something to do, or mix and match if you want to! There are enough things to do one for every day if you so wish.

This week we’ve included the Extra-ordo-nary Video from NDCYS for you to watch. If you haven’t noticed already, each week we are following exactly the same themes as them, so check out their channel NDCYSLive on YouTube for some more awesome videos.

We have another video from NDCYS this week too! This time it’s one of their Fifa & Faith series, and Tom and Charles are discussing Missionary Discipleship this week. It’s a fairly long video but well worth the watch.

Mark 6:7-13

Jesus called his twelve apostles together. He sent them out in groups of two and gave them power over evil spirits. This is what he told them: “Take nothing for your trip except a stick for walking. Take no bread, no bag, and no money. You can wear sandals, but don’t take extra clothes. When you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. If any town refuses to accept you or refuses to listen to you, then leave that town and shake the dust off your feet as a warning to them.”

The apostles left and went to other places. They talked to the people and told them to change their hearts and lives. They forced many demons out of people and put olive oil on many who were sick and healed them.

Our first song is from Chris Tomlin. This song is all about following God, and as missionary disciples that is exactly what we should be doing. We should follow Christ in all that we do, including spreading his message.

This song is INCREDIBLE! It’s so much fun to sing and is all about trusting God no matter where we go or what is going on. Also *spoiler alert* this weeks Learn A Song video is this song, so if you want to learn some actions to it then open up the Learn A Song tab and press play!

One group of people we really couldn’t live without at this time are post men and women.

Especially when we cannot see our friends and family, wouldn’t it be lovely to receive some ‘proper post’ through the letter box? And writing a letter would definitely pass some time!

Why not write a letter to someone you care about who you can’t see at this time – you could add some inspirational quotes, an inspiring bible passage or even a picture you have taken or drawn. Then put it in an envelope with their address on, add a stamp and post away!

By sharing our faith with others we are being Missionary Disciples.

The Mission of My Life by John Henry Newman

Slowly and silently read the following prayer. Recognise that the words are being spoken to you and think about the ways you are living out what they say as a Missionary Disciple.

God has created and calls me to do Him some definite service.
He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another.
I have my mission. I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons.
He has not created me for nothing.
I shall do good; I shall do His work.
I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth, while not intending it, if I do but keep His
commandment to love.
Therefore, I will trust Him, whatever I am, I can never be thrown away.

Missionary Disciples  – Pope Francis quote

‘Today, as always, the Lord needs you, young people, for his Church. Today too, he is calling each of you to follow him in his Church and to be missionaries… Young people, please: don’t put yourselves at the tail-end of history. Be active members! Build a better world, a world of brothers and sisters, a world of justice, of love, of peace, of fraternity, of solidarity.’
