Now that our Christmas celebrations are over we must look forward and celebrate the New Year by trying to be good people with the light that Jesus brought in our lives.
Our Music Resource and Scripture Resource remind us that we should praise God and celebrate all of the wonderful things that we have been given.
In the Picture Resource it is your job to work out which celebrations are taking place in the photographs and to share with your classmates your knowledge on these celebrations.
As people who have been given gifts and talents by God there is lots to celebrate about ourselves. As our Action this week you will be holding a very special awards ceremony for everyone in your Class to celebrate the wonderful things that you all do well.
It is important to remember that people all around the world have different celebrations with different traditions and our Video Resource shows some of the many celebrations that happen throughout the year.
Keep the New Year celebrations going this week and celebrate all of the wonderful things that you have in your life!

A great way to rejoice and to celebrate is by singing!
If you know this song then join in and sing it as your celebration this morning. If you’re not sure about the words to this song then pick a happy song that you all know and sing that together as your prayer today.
You might even like to get some musical instruments, or you could try to sing the song as a round like they do in the video.

Look around the room at the people in your Class and think about what they are great at and have achieved.
Are they a great friend?
Do they have a smile that cheers everyone up?
Are they great at spellings or reading words?
To celebrate the people around us and the fantastic achievements that we have all made we are going to hold an awards ceremony.
Think of some awards that you could have in your Class for example, Girl/ Boy who’s always smiling, Friendship awards, Spellings King/ Queen.
Send each group in your Class out one at a time and vote for who will receive each award in your Class.
You can all help to make the certificates or you could make a special flower or medal to give each person as they get their award.
Here are some of the things you might need for your awards ceremony:
We have many parts in the one body, and all these parts have different functions. In the same way, though we are many, we are one body in union with Christ, and we are all joined to each other as different parts of one body. So we are to use our different gifts in accordance with the grace that God has given us. If our gift is to speak God’s message, we should do it according to the faith that we have; if it is to serve, we should serve; if it is to teach, we should teach; if it is to encourage others, we should do so. Whoever shares with others should do it generously; whoever has authority should work hard; whoever shows kindness to others should do it cheerfully.
Love must be completely sincere.
(Romans 12: 4-9)
You could play this music at the start or as the people who are receiving awards collect them.
Think about how you could decorate the room for your awards ceremony.
Will you have a red carpet?
Will you have decorations?
Will you have a poster about your awards ceremony and invite other classes to see the awards being given?

Are there any special celebrations that you know of that are celebrated in a different country or culture?
Can anyone in your Class say “Happy New Year” in a different language?
There are celebrations that happen all over the world for different events and with different traditions.
It is important that we respect other people and their traditional celebrations.
Help us to be friends with others around the world.

This week’s Scripture is a Psalm which praises and thanks God for loving us.
Happy are those whom you choose,
whom you bring to live in your sanctuary.
We shall be satisfied with the good things of your house,
the blessings of your sacred Temple.
You answer us by giving us victory,
and you do wonderful things to save us.
People all over the world
and across the distant seas trust in you.
You set the mountains in place by your strength,
showing your mighty power.
You calm the roar of the seas
and the noise of the waves;
you calm the uproar of the peoples.
The whole world stands in awe
of the great things that you have done.
Your deeds bring shouts of joy
from one end of the earth to the other.
(Psalm 65: 4-8)
To celebrate the love that God shows to us we take part in Mass and Liturgies where we praise and thank God.
Work together to write a prayer for the end of the day when you can thank God for all of these wonderful things.
