10th June 2000- 5th April 2018
Sunday 5th April will mark two years since our much loved 6th Form student, Alphin Abraham passed away.
The below photos were taken last year at The Becket School after Alphin’s one year memorial Mass. On Friday we would have celebrated a memorial Mass in The Becket School’s Chapel with Alphin’s family and friends. Unfortunately we are unable to do this, however we will still gather in unity and prayer as we pray for Alphin and her family and friends at our homes.
Alphin had so much love and joy to share, she had the kindest heart and was so passionate about helping others.
We invite you to read Alphin’s Memoir for her Second Anniversary that has been composed and shared with us from Alphin’s parents.
Two months ago I stumbled upon a piece of paper tucked in Alphin’s laptop bag with her bucket list. Her wish list included the following – being an organ donor, getting high grades in Maths, learning to ski, and setting up a charity. It was not possible for her to be an organ donor. Skiing did not happen either. However, Alphin’s love for learning found momentum in the hearts of her teachers and fellow students. Alphin not only obtained a grade A in advanced Mathematics but was also posthumously awarded the 2017-18 Canon James Monaghan Trophy for outstanding commitment to academic progress.
To honour Alphin’s passion for Mathematics, in 2019 The Becket School inaugurated The Annual Alphin Abraham Award for outstanding achievement in Maths. Mary and I had the honour of presenting the 2018-19 award to Alex Stocks at the annual Becket School award evening. It was heartening to see Alex’s humility and learn about his love for Maths. We know that Alphin smiles at every success that is witnessed at her Alma mater.
Across the world, in the tiny village of Baliganapalli in India, Alphin’s heart resides with the underprivileged children of Shanti Bhavan; a non-profit organisation committed to education in rural Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, India. Two years ago we initiated The Alphin Elizabeth Memorial Fund to honour Alphin’s vision of setting up a charity. Through the fund and the generous donations by each one of you, we have cumulatively reached the threshold for sponsoring a classroom at Shanti Bhavan School. ‘The Alphin Abraham Memorial Pre -K Classroom” at Shanti Bhavan will stand as a befitting tribute to her memory. Words cannot express our heartfelt gratitude to each one of you as you have stepped out of your comfort zones and given generously to a cause with eternal rewards.
As for Mary, Ashley and myself (Abraham) – a part of us remain in a standstill with memories of Alphin and the other painfully moves forward as we create a new life and new memories without our darling daughter. Alphin’s ability to cope with adversity continues to inspire us as we move ahead with a strong purpose of keeping Alphin’s vision alive.
The students of Shanti Bhavan echo this gratitude: Alphin Elizabeth Abraham Memorial Fund – Thank You!

As we remember and celebrate the life of Alphin this weekend we invite you to wear Alphin’s favourite colour (red) in your homes, light a candle and say a prayer for Alphin and her family and friends.
Dear Lord, we pray for Alphin, who blessed our school community and who shared her hope and joy with us and everyone she met. May her example of faith and resilience continue to inspire others.
We pray for Alphin’s family, may they be surrounded by God’s love so that they may not be overwhelmed by their loss, but have confidence in God’s goodness, and have strength to continue the legacy of their inspirational Alphin.
Lord help us to continue Alphin’s happy and positive attitude in all that we do. May we strive to make the world a better place and to treasure every moment and every breath of our lives.
Eternal rest, grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her.
May she rest in peace.
